What is text?

In a literal sense, text is considered anything that can be read, from two words on a road sign to a whole book. Text is anything that can be read and printed on anything. In a traditional sense, books, newspapers, journal articles letters would be considered texts but in society today there are many forms of media that can be considered text. For example, a piece of art could be considered a text as it is showing a message even if there are no words to be read. The meaning of text is open to personal interpretation and some people may disagree that art could be considered a form of text and stick to the more traditional definition. 

The images collected represent text in varying ways and in a variety of expressions. The graffiti is written as form of expression whereas the biking sign is written to inform, and the LGBTQ sign is written for awareness and support.
